Next is companionship. My husband says coming home to Rex after a hard day’s work is something he looks forward to, while our faithful friend keeps me company the whole day long.
Physical contact makes both Rex and us happy. When he nuzzles up next to me and licks my hand, I feel that all is right with the world. My husband says cuddling and stroking Rex makes him calmer.
I can talk about anything with Rex and he will listen. He is someone to talk to, especially when I'm alone when my husband is out of town on some business matter - and talking things out relieves a lot of internal pressure.
My husband gets his daily quota of exercise while walking Rex or tossing the ball to him to fetch. It also gives him an opportunity to get outside and breathe some fresh air.
And finally, Rex gives us a feeling of safety and security. He never fails to bark when he hears something out of the ordinary. He is always alert and ready to protect us from any intruder.
As we gather together to give thanks for our blessings during Thanksgiving, I believe that we must not forget our pets, those faithful companions that are such an important part of our lives.
